Cycling the white gravel roads

The white roads around Serre belong to two well-known races: the Strade Bianche and the Eroica.

The permanent Eroica route is open all year round, and from Serre you can ride to the Monte Sante Marie sector.

The Strade Bianche has been on the UCI WorldTour calendar since 2017. The last edition was raced on 7 March 2026, the next one is scheduled for 6 March 2027.

The Monte Sante Marie sector, in the municipality of Asciano, is 11.5 km long, with 4.5 km of climbing and gradients up to 18%. It is named after Fabian Cancellara, the first rider to win the race three times. The hamlet of Monte Sante Marie is 15 km from the Grancia.

On the roads of the Eroica

The Eroica was born in 1997 in Gaiole in Chianti. Its permanent route is open all year: 209 km in 12 stages plus 4 variants, 3,023 m of climbing and about 100 km of white roads.

One stage runs from Buonconvento to Asciano, through gullies, biancane and isolated farmhouses. Asciano is 7 km from the Grancia, Buonconvento 25.
