A grange on the Via Lauretana

The Grancia delle Serre is recorded since 1210. It was a grange, a fortified farm, of the Santa Maria della Scala hospital of Siena, and it stood on the Via Lauretana, the pilgrims' road between Siena and Cortona.

Today the Tuscan Via Lauretana is walked in five stages, about 114 km. Serre di Rapolano is the end of the second and the start of the third.
