    Buonconvento

Buonconvento: the walled village and its tower, seen from above

    Via Francigena

It is one of the Borghi più belli d'Italia and a stop on the Via Francigena, between Ponte d'Arbia and San Quirico d'Orcia. Of the gates that once opened in its walls, the Porta Senese survives, on the side facing Siena. In Palazzo Ricci Socini, the Museum of Sacred Art of the Val d'Arbia is well worth a visit, with works by Duccio di Buoninsegna and Pietro Lorenzetti.

A hamlet of Murlo, formed by joining two neighbouring medieval villages. You reach it on a country road through the Sienese hills, best driven without hurrying.

    Murlo and Poggio Civitate

Murlo: the castle village on top of its hill

In the village of Murlo, inside the former bishop's palace, the Antiquarium di Poggio Civitate museum has been open since 1988, gathering the finds from the Etruscan archaeological site on the nearby hill. We suggest checking the opening hours before you go.
